WeWork: Where every detail is meant to spark a conversation

You may not think a staircase is an integral part of any office. WeWork disagrees. The builder of coworking spaces sees an opportunity to trigger connections in every detail of its properties. A wide staircase allows people to comfortably pass one another. But a thoughtfully narrow staircase forces a slight interaction as people pass.

In each WeWork location, this message of interaction is evident. In the New York Soho West office, a large, ground floor industrial space becomes a hub of meeting spaces both for casual chit-chat and innovative brainstorms, featuring long wooden tables and a bar that hosts daily events.

In other offices, the signs are more subtle. The Studio Square office in Queens has a large canteen-like space with neon signs adorning the wall and a piano room off the side, flowing onto a patio that overlooks a beer garden. These spaces are built so that conversations can keep going and people can constantly connect.

Each WeWork facilitates these interactions while looking inconspicuous, so members can naturally gravitate towards one and other during their workday.

I have a narrow staircase in the co-working space that I run - I will look at it in a different light after reading this post!

A friend I follow on Instagram showers us with photos of all the pet therapy they get in the WeWork Chinatown location -- seems like a great way to be human and productive.
